Throw Down Thursday

I have the coolest friends! JT noticed I'd started running again and he shot me a quick message  - pretty much - LETS RUN! While our schedules didn't mesh, just knowing he had my back was the bomb! We did find some races we wanted to hit this year - just as soon as they open up for registration. The Retro Run 5K in July and The Viking Run 5K in October. Not to mention The Mercedes Relay next year. Woo Hoo!! So many fun fun things!!

Because Aunt Angela Said So . . .

Aunt Angela ran the Disney Half Marathon for her 50th Birthday. She and her friends trained for a  year, they sported tutu's, and they finished the half marathon. At the end, they were sprinkled with Magic Pixie Dust. How could you not want to do that? Disney? Girlfriends? Tutus? Pixie Dust? Absolutely! Last night I had dinner with Aunt Angela (not actually my Aunt, my sister-in-law Gia's Aunt, but extended family is always family!!!) and she asked about my running. (I was embarrassed, I had such grand plans.) We chatted and I knew that she was the inspiration I needed. My angel in Angela. We were together last night for the National Multiple Sclerosis Dinner and Wine Auction Charity Event. See, Aunt Angela has MS and with her MS, she began a running program and has continued to run! For me, I'm going back to the beginning. Couch to 10K. Day 1 Week 1. Let's Run, because Aunt Angela Said So!!!

Brenda Ladun Conquer Cancer Run

The wonderful Grace Thompson is my race buddy John's mother. She is also a breast cancer survivor. In her honor John and I have formed the team Running for Grace.  If you are free Saturday, March 1st at 8:00 am, we would love to have you run, jog, walk, push a stroller, pull a wagon, just get out an move with us. We had a the best time at the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Dash - as did MiniLi and MiniLu, so we figured the more the merrier!!  Come have fun with us and support a great cause at the same time. (And even if you can't make it or this isn't your thing, you can still donate through the Running for Grace hyperlink.) We hope to see you there!!

Lesson Learned - Never Run With Your Pants On Inside Out

My mornings are chaotic as I'm sure are everyone else's. We wake up, Mr. May gets ready for work and I dress the girls, fix snacks, fix hair, find shoes, etc. After I kiss them all good-bye, I have a finite time I can run before I have to come home, shower, dress, and get to work.
This morning, when I was getting out of the car to run, I noticed I had my running pants on inside out. I love these pants because they have a hidden "key" pocket on the inside. And after today, I completely understand why the pocket is ON THE INSIDE! When the pocket is on the outside - the key can work it's way loose and fall out - somewhere on the trail.
So, my morning consisted of:
A very chilly run (37 degrees)
The realization that I didn't have the key to the car when I was finished
Walking back most of my path looking for the key
A call to my mother (whom I woke up) to please come bring me the spare key from her house
My mother arriving - without the key (I did say I woke her up)
A trip back to Mama's for the key
A drive to the hardware store for a new key (Computer Chipped car keys cost $75.00 to replace FYI)
Posting handwritten signs on both ends of the trail "LOST - Ford Car Key - If found please contact  . . .)
So, if you find a car key on Lakeshore, please let me know and also - NEVER RUN WITH YOUR PANTS ON INSIDE OUT!

Not so wordless Wednesday

I tried to get out and run this morning on the road where I live. It is a complete sheet of ice (no salt or sand trucks here). After a close call with a truck who was having a difficult time staying on the road, I called it for safety's sake and came back home.
There are so many people I know who are stuck where they were yesterday, or where they were able to get to last night. Families separated, children at schools without their parents, teachers who stayed to be with their students, co-workers at my office . . . what a 2 inch snowstorm!! Stay put. Stay warm. and above all, Stay Safe!!!

Things that make you run F A S T

I thought this morning it was going to be all about the weather. (21F at the end of my run FYI)
However, an exceptional time motivator and a way to cut your run short is a call from the alarm company! One mile into my run my phone rings - 6:42am and you know it must be important. I spin around and high tail it back to my car - record time I am sure! I met Officer John and we did a walk through of the house. Mr. May showed up less than 2 minutes later. Turns out it was a motion sensor in the room we call The Hanger. The Chinese New Year is Friday and we had decorated for MiniLi and MiniLu. The alarm triggering culprit? Our Dragon!

Super Hero Saturday - JT Thompson

Sometime back JT challenged me to run the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Dash with him. The morning began with the two of us texting back and forth - silently hoping the other would back out. 27 Degrees is a TOUGH way to start a morning race! Obviously, we are not quitters =)  We finished the race - as JT said, "we weren't the first and we weren't the last" And, truth be told, we had a total blast! (Extra kudos to Mr. May who pulled MiniLi and MiniLu in the wagon all morning!)

Back on Track

A while back my dear friend, JT,  challenged me to run the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Dash with him. Well, folks - that is in less than two weeks (eleven days to be precise) so . . . time I best get my run back on track. The Challenger Division requires that you run two miles, stop, eat one dozen doughnuts (yes, 12 doughnuts) and then run an additional two miles.  Race details include the following: "Those who register as a Challenger and eat all 12 doughnuts will pass through a special timing chute." I believe this is also known as the "please puke here" chute. I will be entering the race as a Casual Runner, I can not speak for JT.
